Final Round at UNCW Lady Seahawk Gives XU Momentum for CAA Championships

WALLACE, N.C. - The Xavier women's golf team were red hot in the final round of the UNCW Ladies Seahawk Invitational but were unable to catch an equally strong Maryland team. The Musketeers finished 16th overall at the 6,183 yard, par-72 River Landing C.C. Xavier finished 10 strokes behind the Terrapins at 952 (+88) after their final round of 310, the Musketeers' best third round since their 301 on October 14 at the LPGA International Xavier Invitational. North Carolina State beat out UNC-Greensboro by one stroke to claim the team title at 896 (+32). Carmen Perez-Narbon of UNC-Wilmington outplayed Erica Creed of UNC-Greensboro in a playoff to earn medalist honors with a one-over par 217. Sophomore Mary Beth McKenna paced XU with her best performance since the Xavier Invitational. Rounds of 76, 78, and 77 earned her a tie for 35th at 15-over par (231). Senior Diana Torry finished seven strokes behind McKenna in a 66th-place tie at 238 (+22). Freshman Audrey Fellmeth, the third Musketeer to sign a 77 for her final card, finished her tournament in a tie for 73rd at 24-over par. Sophomore Lindsay Steiner's final-round 79, her best since a final round 78 at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate on September 23, catapulted her into 83rd place at 32-over. A stroke and one place behind, freshman Rachel Levi finished in 84th with a 249.
