Women's Golf led by Fellmeth at John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate
April 1, 2008
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - On an Eagles Landing course riddled with hazards, the Xavier women's golf team finished tied for 13th with Richmond at 655 (+71) at the conclusion of the two-round John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. The event was held at the par-73, 6,144 yard Eagles Landing C.C. After a one hole playoff, Georgia State outlasted Jacksonville to claim the team title and break the 29-over par tie. Suzanne Stanley of Mississippi State shot a one-over par 147 to claim individual medal honors. Freshman Audrey Fellmeth paced the Musketeers with rounds of 78 and 76, XU high-rounds on both days, to set a new season high with a tie for 13th place at eight-over. Fellmeth missed the first top ten of her career by one stroke. Sophomore Mary Beth McKenna, working hard to help lift the Musketeers, fired rounds of 80 and 81, earning a tie for 42nd at 161 (+15). The difficult course challenged the Xavier field, including senior Diana Torry, who carded an 88 and 83 to finish in 68th at 25-over. Junior Lindsay Cornell and freshman Rachel Levi were not far behind, finishing in 72nd (+27) and 73rd (+28), respectively. Senior Erin Gore rounded out play for XU in 79th (+41).
The Musketeers travel next weekend to Wallace, N.C. for the two-day UNCW Ladies Seahawk Invitational. |
