Dave Schureck

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
Third Year

Alma Mater:
Xavier '95

Dave Schureck begins his third season in charge of the Xavier University men's soccer program.

It did not take the 1995 XU grad long to get his alma mater's soccer program moving in the right direction.

Last year, Schureck led Xavier to its most wins since 2002 (7-10-2), to a 4-3-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play and clinched a berth into the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since 1997 with an exciting 2-1 double overtime win against Richmond in the regular season finale.

The Musketeers improved in every statistical category in 2006 and more of the same is anticipated for 2007 as Schureck has inked another highly-touted recruiting class to join a strong core of returning players.

Schureck led XU to a 4-10-5 mark during his first season as head coach including a level 3-3-3 record in Atlantic 10 play, which was good enough to keep the Musketeers in contention for a berth in the conference tournament until the final day of the regular season.

Schureck, the fifth head coach in the 30-year history of the Xavier men's soccer program, spent the previous eight years at the University of Dayton and had been the Flyers' head coach since 2000. Schureck compiled a 57-33-8 (.622 winning pct.) overall record in five seasons as Dayton's head coach, including a 35-15-3 (.689) mark in Atlantic 10 competition.

"It is an exciting time here at Xavier. Campus has undergone tremendous change and growth over the past 10 years and the next 10 will be even more exciting with the Hoff Quad and Xavier Square," states Schureck. "Myself and the staff are committed to finding those student-athletes that understand and believe in the Xavier mission when continuing to build this program. We have improved greatly on the field and, more importantly, in the classroom over the past two seasons. Performance on and off the pitch are the foundation in the Xavier athletic department and with this program."

Schureck was the top assistant for former Dayton head coach Jim Launder and helped the team to three straight winning seasons. The Flyers won two Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Championships, as well as the regular season crown in 1998.

The 34-year old Louisville, Ky. native got his collegiate coaching start at his alma mater when he was hired as an assistant coach during the 1996 season.

Schureck has served as coach and trainer for several youth clubs including Cincinnati United Premier, Team Cincinnati, Cincinnati Classics, Team Dayton, Lakota United, and as Director of Coaching for Dayton Galaxies FC. He currently serves on the Region II ODP coaching staff and is Director of Advanced Youth for NWC Alliance. He holds a USSF "A" license.

Schureck started all but one game in his collegiate career, even netting a game-tying goal and assisting on the game winning goal from his keeper position in his final home game his senior year against UD.

He collected many accolades while at XU. He was team MVP in 1991 All-Ohio in 1991 and 1994, and Academic All-Mideast all four years. Schureck was also a member of the Cincinnati Classics Region II Men's Open Champions in 1995.

He has translated his playing success to coaching and under his guidance, Coach Schureck's players have been getting noticed: Two NSCAA All-Americans, 11 All-Region, 18 All-Ohio, 22 All A-10 Conference, including the 2000 A-10 Player of the Year and the 2003 Ohio Player of the Year. Coach Schureck's teams also are noticed off the field with 12 Academic All Atlantic 10, 8 Academic All-Region, and 2 Academic All Americans. At Xavier, the team has improved their team GPA every semester since his arrival.

In 2000, Coach Schureck was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the year after leading Dayton to the A-10 regular season crown.

Schureck and his wife Jen reside in Cincinnati and have two sons, Beau (4) and Reid (2).
