Men's Golf Takes Fourth at the Air Force Invitational

Sept. 9, 2007

Final Results

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshman Diego Tamayo made his Xavier debut in style, firing rounds of 67-72-72 - 211 (-5) to lead the Xavier University men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational held at the 7,301-yard Eisenhower Blue Course.

The Musketeers found themselves in second place after shooting a seven-under par 281 in round one.  Tamayo's first round 67 was XU's low round for the weekend and he was joined by Alan Glynn (69), Michael Beausejour (71) and Kyle Hodges (74).

XU followed that up with a one-over 289 in Saturday's second round.  Newcomer Peter O'Neill was the lone Musketeer to break par with a one-under 71.  Tamayo shot a level-par 72 along with Beausejour to pace XU.

Xavier kept pace with the field and shot a 292 in Sunday's finale and finished 10 shots behind both Iowa State and Wichita State.  The Shockers took home first place with a playoff-win.

The Musketeers were one of five teams in the 18-team field to have three players finish in the top-20 as Tamayo (fourth), Glynn (16th) and Beausejour (19th) each had solid showings.

O'Neill also had a solid debut for Xavier, finishing in a tie for 32nd place.

The Musketeers will return to action on September 14th and 15th when the team travels to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Tucker Invitational.
