Xavier University head men's basketball coach Sean Miller has added Emanuel Richardson, 34, to fill the open assistant coaching position on his staff.

"Emanuel Richardson is an extremely talented basketball coach," said Miller. "His background as an exceptional player, an assistant at Marist University, and most recently his involvement in New York City as the director of the Gauchos AAU program, allows him to bring unique and valuable experiences to our program. We are excited to have him join our staff and Xavier family."

Richardson has an extensive basketball background working with young men in the New York area, including most recently as the Director of Basketball for the New York Gauchos/Teamwork Foundation in Bronx, New York, since 2005. Richardson, an assistant coach at St. Raymond's High School for Boys in the Bronx in 2004, was a head coach for 9th and 10th graders in the New York Gauchos system in 2003.

"It is an honor and a pleasure to work for Coach Miller and to work with coaches Whitford, Mack, Comar and Mercurio," said Richardson. "To have an opportunity like this is anybody's dream. I am extremely excited."

Richardson's resume includes three stops in the collegiate coaching world. He was an NCAA Division I assistant coach at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 2004-05 prior to taking over the Gauchos. While at Marist he was the recruiting coordinator and was also responsible for scouting and individual skills work. He worked extensively with the guards on ball handling and offensive skill development.

Prior to his stint at Marist, Richardson spent three years as an assistant coach at Monroe College in the Bronx, an NJCAA Division I program, focusing his efforts heavily on recruiting and the implementation of workout regimens for the student-athletes. He helped guide Monroe to a 31-3 finish in 2003, winning Region 15 and District 3 Championships while placing fifth nationally in the NJCAA National Tournament for Division I Junior Colleges in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Richardson, a 1998 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a degree in business marketing and management, began his coaching career at his alma mater in 1999. He served as Associate Head Coach for the NCAA Division I school, handling recruiting, scouting opponents, running practices and scheduling study hall. He helped his alma mater record its best record in school history at 25-3.
