Zach Schmidt begins his third season as an assistant coach for the Musketeers. Schmidt was a volunteer assistant with the team in 2005 and will continue working with the infielders, hitters and serve as the first base coach this season. Recruiting video analysis as well as scouting reports on opposing teams will also fall under his duties during the season.

A 2003 graduate of Miami (Ohio), Schmidt earned his bachelor's degree in business administration, while also excelling on the baseball field. He was a four-year starter for the RedHawks in the infield and started 216 of Miami's 234 games played over his career.

In his four seasons, Schmidt helped MU reach the NCAA tournament in 2000, where he started all three tournament games. During his freshman season, the team also captured the 2000 MAC tournament title with wins over Central Michigan, Ohio and Ball State. The next two seasons, Schmidt helped the RedHawks reach the MAC tournament championship games.

The former RedHawk is still in the career top 10 for hits, at-bats, doubles, walks and runs scored at Miami.

After his career at Miami, Schmidt continued his baseball career with the Florence Freedom. He played for the Freedom during the 2004 and 2005 seasons and finished the 2005 season third on the team in walks.

He also has great ties to and knowledge of the Cincinnati area as he played locally for McNicholas High School. Schmidt started every game at shortstop for the Rockets and helped the team to the 1998 Ohio Division II state championship, while also earning All-League honors. In his senior season, he was named MVP of the annual Cincinnati East-West all-star game.

Schmidt currently resides in Cincinnati.
