Xavier Women Take Third at Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's cross country teams competed today at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Philadelphia, Penn. Despite three inches of rainfall the women finished third in a field of 14 which is the best Xavier finish in school history. The men took eighth also in a field of 14. The women improve to an 89-27 (16-2 A-10) record while the men established a 67-36 (8-10 A-10) record. The women have experienced rising success in the Atlantic 10 moving from tenth, to seventh, fifth, fourth and now third. Freshman Christina Schneider led the Musketeers finishing third in 18:46. Because of her success throughout the season and at the championships Schneider was awarded Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year. Following Schneider was sophomore Becky Clark who finished 14th in 19:18. Clark was named Atlantic 10 All-Conference. Freshmen Caitlin Thomas took 25th in a time of 19:55. Rounding out the women's side was senior Amanda Brown and Bethany Moore finishing in 20:09 and 20:25, respectively. The men's squad was led by senior Ben Milroy finishing 18th in 26:21. Junior Luke Beuerlein was the next Musketeer to cross the finish like taking 29th in 26:41. Junior Clinton Womack recorded a time of 27:07. Rounding out the men's team was freshman Tommy Kauffman in 27:49 and sophomore Drew Kaiser in 28:19.
XU will return to action on Saturday, November 10 when they compete at the NCAA Regional Championships in Bloomington, Ind. The meet is set to start at 12:00 p.m. |
