CINCINNATI - The Xavier University cross country program had a tremendous race today at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu, Calif.. Two new school records were established despite cool temperatures and rainy weather. The men finished third in a field of nine while the women took fourth in a field of 12.

Ben Milroy established a new 8K school record in a time of 24:47.05 while finishing third overall. He surpassed the record of Dave Dickman who ran 25:09 in 1999. Junior Luke Beuerlein placed ninth in a field of 88 in a time of 25:00.35. Rounding out the scoring for the Musketeers were junior Clinton Womack (19th), freshman Tommy Kauffmann (20th) and freshman Dean Rothenberger in time of 25:39.97, 25:40.89, and 25:57.86, respectively. The two displacers were freshman Tyler Fry and Freshman Ben Nathan who were 28th and 38th respectively.

"Ben is running with a tremendous amount of confidence right now" said head coach Steve Nester. "I couldn't be happier for our senior captain who is the heart and soul of our young team."

The girls ran a very respectable fourth place in the 12 team meet. Junior Becky Clark broke the school record the 6K which was previously held by former A-10 Champion Kerry Hils. Clark's time of 20:46.88 bested the previous record of 21:49 as she placed fourth overall. Freshman Christina Schneider continued to impress while placing fifth overall in the field of 112 in a time of 20:53.72. Rounding out the scoring for the Musketeers were senior Amanda Brown (24th), freshman Caitlin Thomas (27th) and sophomore Kelsey Flaherty (44th), who ran in times of 21:40.40, 21:48.44, and 22:27.07, respectively. The displacers were Joanna Gruber and Caitlin Shagena.

"I am particularly happy with Becky's school record and another great effort out of Christina and Kelsey" said Nester. "This meet had some good runners in the field."

Both teams travel Minneapolis, Minnesota next week for the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational. The meet is set to start at 11:20 a.m.
