Milroy Breaks School Record at Southern Ohio Cup

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed Saturday at the Southern Ohio Cup in Oxford, Ohio. The Musketeers were able to stay competitive despite competing in only half of the events as the women took sixth and the mean brought home fourth. Senior Ben Milroy highlighted the meet by breaking the 5,000-meter run record. Milroy put his name on the record books, finishing the 5K in 14:48.36, taking fourth in the event. Derek LeBlanc also brought home a school-record in the triple jump in a distance of 12.95m and was the second leg of the 4x100-meter school-record team of Ryan Ulmer, Jeff Hileman and Dan Magness who finished in 45.55 and took third. Junior Luke Beuerlein was two-one hundredths of a second away from breaking the 1500-meter run record, coming in at 4:02.46, taking second. Magness ran a personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles in a top-10 time of 59.08. Senior Tony Matheus had a strong performance in the 5K after battling back from knee surgery, finishing in 15:54.84.
On the women's side Katie Anderson set a new school-record in the javelin throw in a distance of 29.29m. Junior Becky Clark earned runner-up honors in the 1500 and 800-meter runs in times of 2:16.79 and 4:42.70, respectively. Xavier placed two other runners in the 1500 including sophomore Bethany Moore and freshman Christina Schneider who took seventh and eighth in 4:55.81 and 4:58.48. Freshman Caitlin Thomas continued her success in the 3,000-meter steeplechase recording a time of 11:44.92 and placing second. XU will return to action Saturday, April 5 when they compete at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati Ohio. |
