Becky Clark Establishes School-Record at Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed today at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Both teams only competed in half of the events but, six top-ten individual finishes helped lead both teams to a 10th place finish. Freshman Christina Schneider highlighted the women's side placing third in the 5,000-meter run in a lifetime-best time of 17:53.26 while junior Becky Clark had a standout finish in the one-mile run taking fourth in a school-record and lifetime-best time of 4:53.76. Sophomore Bethany Moore recorded a top-ten finish again in the 1,000-meter run coming in at a personal-best 3:00.72, which is six seconds faster than her time last year. Other notable women's finishes came from seniors Amanda Brown, and Tomilyn Thornberry, junior Katie Wetterau and freshman Kate Anderson who all ran individual lifetime-bests. Brown ran 11:05.69 in the 3,000-meter run as Thornberry completed the mile in an impressive 5:27.44. Wetterau finished the 800-meter run in 5:27.44 while Anderson threw a standout shot put distance of 8.00m. On the men's side Luke Beuerlein had a lifetime-best finish in the one-mile run taking seventh in 4:18.89. Freshmen Ben Nathan and Sam Lewis finished in the top-15 of the 800-meter run in 1:59.86 and 1:59.90, respectively. Nathan's time was his career-best. Junior Clinton Womack turned in 1,000-meter career-best time of 2:32.60 earning him eighth while senior Ben Milroy took 10th in the 3,000-meter run in a lifetime-best 8:46.33. Senior Matt Weingardt and sophomore Michael Westendorp ran career-best times of 4:36.62 and 4:33.19 in the one-mile run as freshman Tommy Kauffman completed the 5,000-meter run in a lifetime-best time of 15:52.16. Sophomore Derek LeBlanc recorded personal-best distances of 6.14m and 12.45m in the long jump and triple jump. Both men's and women's 4x800-meter relay teams earned fourth place. The men's squad of Womack, Lewis, Nathan, and Beuerlein recorded a time of 7:55.86 while the women's team of Clark, sophomore Kate Phillips, Moore, and senior Caitlin Shagena finished in 9:21.71, cutting five seconds off their 4x800 since establishing the school-record just two weeks ago. Shagena ran her split of the season anchoring the relay in 2:20. The men's and women's track teams will begin outdoor track competition March 8 when they travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Collegiate Classic.
