Swim Teams Wrap up Day Three of A-10 Championship

Photo Gallery BUFFALO, N.Y. - After the third day of competition at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship, the Xavier women's team is in second place and the men's team is in fourth. Several more school records fell during Friday's finals at the Flickinger Athletics Center. "Again, both teams put forth a tremendous effort today," said head coach Steve Riegler. "This meet has been the best meet our program has ever had. I am looking forward to finishing off on a positive note tomorrow." Sophomore Martha Cutter-Wilson won the bronze medal in the 400 IM with a time of 4:28.68 while classmate Kelsey Burns touched fifth (4:30.43). On the men's side, junior Jake Burke came in sixth as he turned in a time of 4:07.21 in the same event. Sophomore Elaina Suba bested the school record she set in Friday's prelims of the 100 Butterfly by .74 seconds in Friday's finals, placing third (56.53). Freshman Bethanie Griffin came in seventh with a time of 59.41. In the 200 Freestyle event, freshman Kari Peglar also broke her morning school record by 1.36 seconds (1:51.11) and took silver in the race. Freshman Nathan Green finished third (1:40.78) in the same event for the men while junior Patrick McGrath touched sixth (1:42.05). Cutter-Wilson placed fourth (1:05.00) in the women's 100 Breaststroke. Junior Matt Marcus set a new school record in the same event for the men, coming in second with a time of 56.89 while sophomore Mark Febus placed seventh (57.93). In the men's 100 Backstroke, senior Matt Krouse came in fifth (52.20) and sophomore Mickey Hafertepe placed eighth (53.03). XU's women placed their fourth relay team on the podium with a second-place, school-record time of 3:51.51 in the 400 Medley led off by Suba followed by Cutter-Wilson, junior Alissa Schriner and Peglar. The men also set a new school record in the 400 Medley Relay as Krouse, Marcus, freshman John Roof and Green turned in a time of 3:25.27 which was good for fifth place. In that race, Krouse also set a school record in the 100 Backstroke (51.70) in the lead-off portion of the relay. The Musketeers will swim prelims Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Flickinger Athletics Center. Fans can watch the meet streamed live from www.atlantic10.com by paying a fee. Standings
