BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Xavier men's and women's swim teams continued to perform well on the second day of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship with two more school records and four medals in Thursday's finals at the Flickinger Center.

"Both teams did a tremendous job today," said head coach Steve Riegler. "Kari and Pat got us off to a great start today. Overall, both teams are having fun and are swimming fast."

Freshman Kari Peglar bested her school-record preliminary performance by 1.76 seconds to place second (4:56.69) in the 500 Freestyle event and won her first individual A-10 Championship medal. Freshman Lindsey Barton placed fifth (5:04.05) in the same event.

Junior Patrick McGrath accomplished the same feat as he smashed his prelim school-record time by nearly four seconds enroute to a second place finish (4:30.29) in the 500 Freestyle. Freshman Nathan Green finished third (4:32.93) in the same event, placing two Musketeers on the podium.

"This is the best XU swimming has looked in a long time," commented Riegler. "For the women to be in second place is impressive and although the men are two short of a complete team, they are performing well and swimming fast."

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Xavier's team of freshmen Bethanie Griffin and Ashley Sohngen along with sophomore Alison Johnson and junior Alissa Schriner turned in the third school record of the day wth their third place finish (1:36.35).

"Prior to this year, Xavier had placed only one relay team on the podium and this year we have already had all three relays to win medals," said Riegler. "The freshmen are stepping up and the upperclassmen are also performing well. I'm looking forward to both teams swimming fast over the two remaining days."

Tomorrow's prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Flickinger Athletic Center on the campus of Erie Community College. The meet will be video streamed live through the Atlantic 10 website. Fans can subscribe for the cost of $9.95 per day or purchase a three-day subscription for $20.95.
