Mike Mulcahey is in his tenth year as part of Xavier's Sports Medicine Staff and his fourth season as the primary athletic trainer for men's basketball. Head coach Sean Miller said the Xavier basketball program is lucky to have a medical trainer like Mike Mulcahey. "Working with Mike Mulcahey on a daily basis reminds you how much he loves his job. His enthusiasm is contagious around our program. To have a person that is so knowledgeable about his profession and so positive about life is a great combination. To have our trainer impact our players the way he does regarding rehabilitation, overcoming injuries, and preventing injuries and illness is invaluable. Mike is a Xavier graduate and he loves our university. He is passionate about our players' welfare. He cares deeply about their well-being." Mulcahey came to Xavier from Middletown (Ohio) Regional Sports Medicine and Spine Center where he worked with both Middletown High School and the Lebanon (Ohio) Clinic. He is an examiner for the NATABOC exam, American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor, and Disaster Response Services Volunteer. Prior to Middletown, Mulcahey earned his master's degree in athletic training from Western Michigan University, with a Graduate Assistantship at Loy Norrix High School. As a former student athletic trainer, Mulcahey is no stranger to Xavier athletics. He earned his bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Xavier in 1996 while working with several teams. Mulcahey, 32, his wife, Emily, and sons, Patrick and Ryan, reside in Cincinnati. |
